Read more →The UK’s weather is taking a sudden turn this week, with snow, ice and ongoing flood risks expected across several areas.
From Thursday 4pm to Friday midday, parts of Northern England could see snowfall, with up to 10cm settling in higher areas (above 200m). Temperatures are also expected to drop 3–6°C below average, which increases the risk of icy, untreated roads.
Meanwhile, 81 flood warnings are still active across parts of Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset, with groundwater flooding expected to continue due to already saturated ground.
The UK Health Security Agency has also issued yellow cold health alerts for Northern England and the Midlands from Friday through to Monday.
In short: travel and in-person shopping could get tricky.
A prepared home is all about two things: practical essentials and easy comfort food.

Everyday Essentials
Tinned foods (soups, beans, veg)
Pasta, rice, noodles
Long-life milk + bread
Frozen meals + vegetables
Fresh basics (eggs, butter, fruit, veg)
Tea, coffee and hot drinks
Comfort & Family Favourites
Ready meals for quick dinners
Pizza and sharing dishes
Snacks for cosy nights in
Having these sorted means less stress if conditions worsen, travel becomes difficult, or shops get overwhelmed.
